Default Theme with Today
Paper Clip

The search for the perfect theme continues…

While searching for a fix for a call log issue I was having with my phone, I stumbled upon the first theme I’m actually going to use. It’s simply the default theme with a hidden today.

Hidden Today means when you mouseover the Calendar from the portrait home page, a list of your upcoming calendar events comes up.

There’s 8 versions of the theme. Variations between 4 and 8 icons and text under the icons. You can find them here.

I’m using 8 icon Default with Hidden Today theme (OTA).

*****

Facebook 1.5 changes my Calendar to default as Facebook. To change it back to my email, I go to Options > Advanced Options > Default Services > Calendar (CICAL) then changing it to my email.

After either a battery pull or reloading the theme, I get the Hidden Today to work.

*****

I also stumbled upon the solution to my Call Log bug which wasn’t a bug after all. My Call Log list seemed discombobulated without any distinguishable order to it. I realized it was because I set my list view to “Most Used”.

In the phone screen, I click Options > General Options > Phone List View: and I change it to Most Recent and it makes my Call Log to what I feel like it should look like.

Boy Genius is reporting that a new official OS is coming out for Verizon and others are saying it will come out today. It is supposed to be .141. I won’t believe it until I see it. I’m sure, with my luck, it will come out shortly after I write a .132 findings post.

Wireless and Mobile News says it will come out on Friday.

Verizon wants the IPhone according to ComputerWorld.

Facebook 1.5 Official
Paper Clip

The Facebook App was updated yesterday from 1.3 to 1.5. Even though it shows up in App World, it’s not downloadable. Instead, the update can be found at http://mobile.blackberry.com. Just visit it using the BlackBerry browser.

During installation, it had to overwrite a few modules. First time I ever had to do that for any installation.

Visually, there doesn’t seem to be any changes except in the options.

Changes

- My Calendar is now synced to FaceBook. (It adds event invitations and Birthdays to Calendar
- FaceBook notifications now show up in my message box as well as in the app.
- Most of the contacts I have both a phone contact and are my FaceBook friend automatically have a profile picture synced to the phone. (The picture is poor quality and has a small F on the bottom right)
- My contacts now have where they work under their names.

That’s about all the changes I’ve seen. The changes kind of look like the FaceBook App Vringo. I’m sure they’re not too thrilled about this update.

One app that can take advantage of this is FaceCall because it adds contact pictures automatically. This helps especially because most of my contacts are FaceBook friends. One thing I don’t like is that it overwrites any image I had for the contact. And once again, the quality of the picture isn’t that great.

FaceBook 2.0 is already scheduled to be released sometime soon. But knowing BlackBerry’s track record, a soon-release most likely won’t be soon at all.
